Terms and conditions
ArtSci is a competitive, non-acquisitive competition and exhibition. ArtSci is organised and sponsored by Northern Sydney Science Hub (NSSH) and delivered in partnership with our NSSH members, through the ArtSci Project Team. The ArtSci Project Team shall hereafter be referred to as the Organisers.
All entries must be inspired by the National Science Week 2019 theme: Destination Moon, More missions, More Science – entries that do not address this theme will not be considered for the competition or exhibition.
1.1 ArtSci is open to all inspiring artists in the Northern Sydney Region from age 5 years to adult, with the exception of participating judges, members of the ArtSci Prizes Project Team and their immediate family. Artists will be judged in age categories advised.
1.2 All artworks must be original work commenced and completed by the entrant within the last twelve (12) months (July 2018 – July 2019).
1.3 Artworks can take the form of a poster, painting, drawing, collage, photograph or sculpture.
2. ENTRY SUBMISSION
2.1 Entries to ArtSci 2019 will be accepted from 25 May 2019 and close at midnight, 31 July 2019.
2.2 The entrant must nominate their work to fit into one of the age categories:
Mini Moonbeams (open to ages 5 -8 years)
Cosmic Creators (open to ages 9 -12 years)
Juniors (open to ages 13-17 years)
Seniors (open to ages 18 years plus)
2.3 Entries (including digital photographs of the artwork) are to be submitted online at https://www.northernsydneysciencehub.org/
2.4 One photograph is required to complete an entry submission.
2.5 Digital photographs of artwork should be no more than 2MB.
2.6 An entry comprises of a completed online submission including digital photograph/s of the artwork.
2.7 Each entrant may enter one artwork in the correct category
2.8 Finalists from each of the heats must provide the physical artworks for display at CSIRO/NMI (36 Bradfield Road, West Lindfield) on Saturday 17th August 2019.
3. FINALIST PRIZES
3.1 The ArtSci competition will be judged in two stages. In the first stage, finalists will be selected from their digital entries at heat events held at various venues in Northern Sydney between 1st and 9th August. Each heat venue has its own judges and their decisions are final. These selected finalists from the various heats will move onto the second stage and have their artwork displayed on the NSSH website and presented live at the exhibition final.
3.2 All finalists from the heats will receive a NSSH prize pack and certificate.
3.3 All finalists that have their artwork displayed at CSIRO/NMI Lindfield on 17th August 2019 will be considered for the finals prizes as indicated in their nominated category.
4. PREPARATION OF ARTWORK
4.1 All artworks submitted must be complete.
4.2 Any works proposed to be hung must be appropriately mounted with ‘D’ rings attached by the artist.
4.3 Works with hanging wire, inappropriate cord, screw eyes, other protruding metal or wire will not be accepted.
4.5 The artist’s name, contact phone number and title of work must be marked clearly on the back of each artwork. These details must be the same as the entry form.
4.6 All submissions require an artist statement, maximum 100 words. This should include how the work addresses the theme. The Northern Sydney Science Hub ArtSci Project Team reserves the right to edit all finalist artist statements.
4.8 The ArtSci Project Team reserves the right to disqualify an artwork without recourse if the artwork does not meet the above mentioned presentation standards or if it is deemed inappropriate or unsafe. This is at the discretion of the ArtSci Project Team.
5. SIZE AND WEIGHT OF ARTWORK
5.1 The maximum size of artworks entered into ArtSci is limited to one hundred centimetres (100cm) in any one direction (ie. 1m x 1m x 10cm in depth) and 10kg for hanging artworks, and seventy-five centimetres (75cm) in any one direction and 15kg for table artworks. 5.2 Any artwork that exceeds this size or weight will not be considered for the exhibition or award.
6. EXHIBITION OF ARTWORK
6.1 The ArtSci Finalists’ Exhibition will take place at CSIRO/NMI Lindfield Site at 36 Bradfield Rd West Lindfield 2070 on Saturday 17th August 2019. The exhibition will take place from 2pm until 4pm.
6.2 All works selected for the exhibition will be displayed on the Northern Sydney Science Hub website after 5pm on 10th August 2019 at www.northernsydneysciencehub.org .
6.3 Artists will also be advised by phone and email of their inclusion in the finals exhibition.
6.4 All works selected for finals exhibition must remain on show for the duration of the exhibition. No early collection can be accommodated.
6.5 All artworks are hung in the best relative position as determined by Northern Sydney Science Hub ArtSci project team.
7. DELIVERY OF ARTWORK TO THE FINALS EXHIBITION
7.1 All artworks selected for the finals exhibition must be delivered to the CSIRO/NMI Lindfield Site at 36 Bradfield Rd West Lindfield 2070 between 9.30am- 3.30pm on Monday 11th August , Tuesday 12 August or Wednesday 13th August. Only artworks selected for exhibition will be accepted at the Lindfield Site. Unless specifically arranged prior with the ArtSci Project Manager, works will not be accepted at any other time. 7.2 All delivery and collection costs are the responsibility of the artist.
7.3 Works not delivered at the designated time will be ineligible for exhibition and disqualified from final adjudication.
9. SELECTION AND ADJUDICATION - A TWO STAGE PROCESS
9.1 In the first stage, finalists will be selected from their digital entries at heat events held at various venues in Northern Sydney between 1st and 9th August. Each heat venue has its own judges and their decisions are final.
9.2 These selected finalists from the various heats will move onto the second stage and have their artwork displayed on the NSSH website and presented live at the exhibition final. The final adjudication will take place at the exhibition by the judges and their decisions are final.
9.3 All prizes will be awarded on the advice of the judges, with the exception of the People’s Choice Award. The judges’ decision is final.
9.4 Voting for the People’s Choice Awards in the final exhibition will be available online from 10th August 2019 to 17th August 2019. The winners will be notified on the day of exhibition Final.
9.5 Entrants shall not offer any gifts, hospitality or other inducements to judges or the ArtSci Project Team for the duration of the competition and exhibition. The offer of any gifts, hospitality or other inducements to judges may result in the disqualification of the entrants’ artwork from the competition.
9.6 The Organisers present the ArtSci Competition and Finalists’ Exhibition. Entrants’ artworks are judged by a panel of independent adjudicators. The Organisers reserve the right to amend the prize pool; not to award prizes or add additional prizes based upon on the Judge’s decisions.
10.1 Prizes will be detailed on the Northern Sydney Science Hub website at https://www.northernsydneysciencehub.org/
11.1 The Organisers will take all reasonable care but will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any artwork whilst in their custody. The Organisers do not insure the works whilst in transit, in storage or on exhibition. Artists must arrange their own insurance to cover potential damage, loss or theft.
12.1 Copyright for submitted works remains the property of the entrant.
12.2 Finalist entrants grant the Organisers’ non-exclusive license to use images of their work, in print and online, within Australia for the purpose of promoting ArtSci and the Northern Sydney Science Hub. Or as described in the prizes packages.
12.3 If Northern Sydney Science Hub members (including the councils) would like to use your artwork, other than for promoting ArtSci or the Hub activities, Northern Sydney Science Hub members will contact the Artist directly to seek approval.
13.1 Artists will be credited both online, and alongside their physical artworks, when on display. This will be done in a private way and with authority.
14.1 All personal information collected by the Organisers will be used solely for the purpose of the delivery of the ArtSci exhibition and competition.
